Looking for a way to get your kids outdoors? Check out the Northwest Alabama Youth Mountain Bike Team

FLORENCE, Ala. (TENNESSEE VALLEY WEEKEND) - North Alabama is known for its outdoor scene. With rolling hills and rivers almost everywhere you go, the area is perfect for a nice ride.

We’re not just talking about any ride though, we’re talking about mountain biking. A group in the Shoals is hitting the trails every chance they get, and now they’re encouraging young riders to get outside too.

The National Interscholastic Cycling Association, also known as NICA, has a team in the Shoals that preserves the best trails for other nature lovers and athletes like themselves. The Shoals team is now recruiting for the Northwest Alabama Youth Mountain Bike Team. They are recruiting 6th-12th grade athletes for the upcoming season with the goal of getting more kids on bikes and developing strong minds, bodies, and character.

Interested? Their next interest meeting will be at the Spinning Spoke Cycle Hub located at 221 N Seminary Street in downtown Florence on Thursday, January 13 at 6 p.m.

You have a chance to hop on a bike sooner than you think! They will practice on Sunday, January 16 at 2 p.m. at the Joe Wheeler State Park boat ramp parking lot. If you don’t have the gear, no worries, there will be bikes and helmets available for those who need them!
