You have probably heard the rhythm and blues tunes coming through your speakers but did you know many of them were recorded right here in north Alabama?
TVL took a tour of the iconic FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals just ahead of the release of the new Aretha Franklin biopic, ‘RESPECT.’
‘RESPECT’ follows the story of the Queen of Soul herself. Aretha Franklin spent time recording in the Shoals at FAME in the ’60s. Some of the Muscle Shoals Swampers can be heard on many of her hits such as, ‘I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)’, ‘Tell Mama’ and of course, ‘Respect’.
Payton sat down to talk with the actor portraying the man who was in charge of it all, Rick Hall. Myk Watford grew up around the Shoals, hearing the stories of all the stars visiting his small town to make music. Now, he’s a star himself playing the role of Rick Hall on the big screen. Rodney Hall, Rick Hall’s son, also joined in the conversation to talk about what he remembers about growing up in the studio and what it’s like now.
Hear the stories and then go catch Mrs. Franklin’s story when it hits theatres on August 13!
