HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (TENNESSEE VALLEY LIVING) - Getting into group fitness can be intimidating. You walk into a class and everyone seems to be an expert, and that feeling alone can deter you from reaching your best, both physically and mentally. But at Grit Fitness in Florence, AL, you will find nothing but support, guidance, and community.
Grit Fitness is more than a workout. They are a community that pushes each other to reach for more. Their members show up every day to become a better version of themselves mentally and physically– together.
Coach and Owner, Eliza Hyatt and Coach Caroline Sults have 5 tips for group fitness beginners. If you’re interested in signing up for a class, Grit is offering a 5-class package for $25 that’s exclusive to TVL viewers (offer valid through Friday, 2/16). Purchase for yourself, a bestie, or Valentine!
1. Say ‘yes’ and show up
Grit says to come as you are, whether it’s your first day or day 100. Showing up is the first step towards becoming who you’re meant to be physically and mentally.

2. Stick to the foundation
You’re not supposed to be able to do the advanced option on day one. Don’t be afraid to ask for modifications if you can’t successfully complete the movement as it’s shown by the instructor. The best coaches want to make sure you can feel the movement even if your form looks different.

3. Come prepared
Wear the correct shoes (cycle shoes, sneakers, barre socks for mat work, etc) and clothes (tighter clothes for cycle, sweat proof for a HIIT class). Drink plenty of water before class and bring water with you to class, include electrolytes in your water if preferred, and make sure to have a light snack before class if it’s earlier in the day or at least 1-2 meals before a nighttime workout.

4. Come as you are/all are welcome
At Grit, all fitness levels are welcome. Leave your expectations at the door and just show up ready to learn, grow, and maybe make a new friend along the way.
5. Have fun
Fitness not only makes you physically and mentally stronger, but it’s also a great release from life stresses. Don’t be afraid to sing, dance, yell, and encourage your other teammates. Being vulnerable with one another is how we connect.
