HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (TENNESSEE VALLEY LIVING) - The Tennessee Valley is home to many things that make it unique. From the beautiful mountain views to the southern charm that exudes throughout the community, there’s a lot to love about this area. Another aspect that makes this region even more noteworthy is the abundance of pure musical talent you can come across the more you explore The Valley.

Thanks to more showcasing opportunities that have arisen, like the addition of new music venues, like the Orion Amphitheater, and local organizations like the Huntsville Music Office, a spotlight has been placed on local acts, and stars right in our backyard are getting their chance to shine on stage in front of the community they live in. To highlight some of those who shine bright, we’re giving you an all-access pass to get to know them better through a segment called, ‘Sounds of the Valley.’

Born in Memphis, TN, Alex Banks has always had music in his veins. It was his mother who encouraged him to try his hand at playing the saxophone. While in elementary school, the high school band visited to perform and Alex was starstruck by the saxophonist. He thought to himself, “I want to be him.” The rest is history.

Throughout the years Alex has opened for Kool & The Gang and has heavy involvement with Huntsville’s Jazz in the Park series. He says that the hardest part about his music journey was breaking into the scene.

There’s not a blueprint for the entertainment industry. Just because another musician’s breaking moment happened 6 months into their journey doesn’t mean it will for you. Alex says that because of that, you need to maximize any and every opportunity that comes your way.

For Alex, the energy he receives from a crowd during a performance is what makes it all worth it. A vital part of the relationship between musicians and their audiences is the innate human need for connection. An audience member wants to understand the performer. They want to get to know them through their music. They want to feel like the performer is playing for them, and for them only.
