Don't 'Fall' for all the seasonal decor! Cultivate fall with your five senses, not stuff

The Minimalist Wallet: How to incorporate your 5 senses for fall decor Lauren Hooper shares how to incorporate your 5 senses into fall decorating.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (TENNESSEE VALLEY LIVING) - When it comes to decorating your home for Fall, people typically only think about what they can see. Lauren Hooper, founder of The Minimalist Wallet, says that we should be considering all five senses to intentionally make your home feel like Fall.

Five senses to consider when decorating for Fall:

Sound - Consider creating a playlist of music specifically for Fall. You can play this while reading a book in your home or cooking in the kitchen! Lauren Hooper has both a ‘Cozy Fall’ playlist and a ‘Spooky Halloween’ that she has on her Instagram!

Smell - Try opening the windows every morning and let the Fall air enter into your home. A fall candle, wax melt, essential oil diffuser, or simmer pot are some easy ways to add the scent of Fall, but Lauren suggests that if you slow down, you’ll notice that lighter touches like the scent of an old sweater or leather books also bring in the feeling of Fall.

Touch - With the weather cooling down, it’s time to bring out your Fall wardrobe! Consider purchasing outwear with heavier fabrics like cashmere, cordouroy, and wool. Hooper states that another great way to embrace the ‘fall feels’ is to drape a sweater over your shoulder.

Taste - Almost everyone has heard of pumpkin spice lattes, but Lauren challenges us to try a pumpkin curry or oatmeal this Fall! It’s also a good idea to bring in the taste of fall by adding cinnamon to your coffee. Lastly, consider adding some delicious cranberries and almonds to your next batch of chicken salad.

Sight - Now this one is easy for those of you who live in the Tennessee Valley area. Open your blinds next time you are sitting at home and enjoy the beautiful nature that Fall has to bring.

These suggestions may seem simple, but Lauren says that is the point. Experience Fall this year by enjoying the simple things in life.
