HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (TENNESSEE VALLEY LIVING) - Strolling through a graveyard may not seem like most people’s idea of a fun time. However, you may change your mind when you add characters in costume, local history lessons, exhibits, and more family-friendly fun to the mix!

The Maple Hill Cemetery Stroll is back for another year to help bring the story of Huntsville’s history to life through its annual event.

Cemetery stroll chair Natasha J. Parker and Penny Sumners stopped by the studio to discuss what to expect this time around. Sumners dressed as Annie Merts- a beloved Huntsville City Schools teacher and a featured character in this year’s stroll!

The stroll is happening on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 1:30 PM at Maple Hill Cemetery.

The cemetery itself is full of history. It’s the oldest continuously operated cemetery in the state. Buried at the location are five Alabama governors, several US Congressmen, soldiers from wars dating back to the Civil War to the most recent wars, and many people who helped make Huntsville what it is today.
