HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (TENNESSEE VALLEY LIVING) - In honor of Lymphedema Awareness Month, this edition of Movement Monday is all about exercises that can help manage those symptoms.
Melissa Flowers and Kristen Bell from Therapy Achievements stopped by the studio to educate us on what exactly lymphedema is and who all can be impacted by the disease. Flowers explains that while roughly 1.3 million Americans have been diagnosed lymphedema, almost 3-5 million have the disease and just have not been diagnosed.
Although lymphedema is not curable, there are ways to manage the symptoms and get fluid flowing properly through the body again. One way to do achieve this is with a vibration plate. The idea of the plate is that while you stand on it, your muscles begin contracting and the vibrations get fluids flowing properly in your body. It is important to start slowly and follow guidance from a healthcare provider to ensure any exercise you do are both appropriate and effective toward helping manage symptoms.
