HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (TENNESSEE VALLEY LIVING) - As teens spend more time online, many parents are looking for ways to understand the digital spaces their children use on a daily basis. According to Kristelle Lavallee, open communication and access to the right tools can help families navigate today’s online world with more confidence.
Lavallee, who serves as the Global Head of Teen Wellbeing at Discord, says the platform is focused on creating safer and more transparent experiences for teens and their families. Discord, originally known as a space for gamers, has evolved into a hub where young people connect with friends, communities, and other shared interests through different servers.
To help parents stay informed, Discord offers resources designed specifically for families. One of those tools is Family Center, a feature that gives parents insight on their teen’s activity on the platform while still respecting their privacy. The tool allows parents to view who their teen is communicating with and monitor activity patterns without reading private messages.
Another tool for parents to use is Discord Players, a resource aimed to help families better understand gaming culture and the online communities that teens engage with every day. The initiative encourages conversations between parents and teens about digital habits, online friendships, and internet safety.
As technology continues to evolve, Lavallee believes education, transparency, and communication remain key to helping families safely navigate the digital age.
