HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (TENNESSEE VALLEY LIVING) - Music lovers, there’s an event that you won’t want to miss that’s returning to the Rocket City soon!
Jeff and Tara Mello stopped by the studio to share more details about this year’s Cigar Box Guitar Festival and showed TVL Host Payton Walker how to strum a cigar box guitar of her own!
The festival is taking over two local venues May 29-31. The three-day event brings people from all over to the Rocket City to celebrate creative art forms while bringing the community together to make memories that will last for years to come! The best part is that most of the events in the festival lineup are free.
The festival kicks off on Friday, May 29, at Lowe Mill with a ‘Concerts on the Dock’ show that’s happening from 6 PM to 9 PM. The festivities continue at Lowe Mill the following Saturday. On Sunday, the fun moves over to the Orion Amphitheater in MidCity.
This year’s festival is especially noteworthy because it will pay homage to the late local music icon, Microwave Dave, who passed away in late February 2026. A silent auction will feature limited-edition cigar box guitars. The money from those sales will go towards the Microwave Dave Music Education Foundation. The event will also raise donations for the Huntsville Hospital’s Music Therapy Program.
