Huntsville hits a new beat with Alabama’s first DCI SoundSport Ensemble

Meet the Apollo Marching Theatre

Apollo Marching Theatre stops by ahead of DCI Soundsport competition appearance

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (TENNESSEE VALLEY LIVING) - Huntsville is making history in the marching arts with the launch of Apollo Marching Theatre, Alabama’s first and only Drum Corps International (DCI) SoundSport ensemble.

Led by director Robert Lee Worthey, the Huntsville-based group gives musicians of all ages a chance to perform in the DCI SoundSport program, which features its own competitive events and performance standards. The ensemble was created to provide a place for performers across the Tennessee Valley to continue pursuing their passion for music while building community through the marching arts.

In its inaugural season, Apollo Marching Theatre is already preparing for a major milestone. As Alabama’s only SoundSport ensemble, the group will represent both the state and the city of Huntsville at the 2026 International SoundSport Festival during the Drum Corps International World Championship at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on August 8.

By bringing this unique performance opportunity to North Alabama, Apollo Marching Theatre hopes to inspire local musicians and showcase the talent and spirit of the Tennessee Valley on an international stage.
