MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (TENNESSEE VALLEY LIVING) -For 100 years, Easterseals Alabama has been dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities and other barriers achieve greater independence through life-changing programs and services.
Jerry Groce with Easterseals stopped by the studio to share more about how the organization is celebrating its centennial.
One of the ways Easterseals Alabama plans to spread awareness is during the annual W.C. Handy Music Festival, a beloved regional event that draws thousands of visitors each year.
The organization hopes the celebration will serve as an opportunity to highlight its century-long commitment to empowering people through employment, education, and therapy services.
Among the programs making an impact is the Summer Job Exploration and Training (JET) Program, which places high school juniors and seniors in paid job experiences throughout the region. The program allows students to build valuable workplace skills, gain confidence, and explore potential career paths before graduating.

Easterseals also offers a variety of workforce development services designed to help individuals prepare for long-term success. These include job development and placement assistance, job readiness training, driver permit training, and supported employment services that provide ongoing guidance for individuals entering or maintaining employment.
In addition to career-focused programs, Easterseals provides speech therapy services for children and adults. The program is designed to ensure individuals have access to the care they need, regardless of their ability to pay, helping remove financial barriers to essential therapy services.
As Easterseals marks its 100th anniversary, the organization continues its mission of creating opportunities, promoting independence, and improving the quality of life for individuals and families across the state.
